The 2026 Sunshine Island Vibe Fest is set to make a vibrant return. Building on the strong public response to its inaugural edition, the Kaohsiung City Government, once again collaborating with representative offices from the United States, Japan, the Philippines and Thailand in Kaohsiung, will present the festival from March 6 to 8, 2026.

This year’s event will be fully upgraded, featuring an extended three-day program and a dual-venue format, taking place simultaneously at Kaohsiung Central Park and the Kaohsiung Station Underground Plaza. Chen Chi-Mai, Mayor of Kaohsiung, together with representatives from the four partner countries, warmly invites Taiwanese citizens, new immigrants, migrant workers and international friends to step into the city and experience Kaohsiung’s welcoming spirit, warmth and cultural diversity.

Mayor Chen noted that “island culture” serves as a shared language between Kaohsiung and countries including the United States, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, as well as Southeast Asian nations, and acts as an important bridge connecting them. As a harbor city, Kaohsiung has long maintained close exchanges with international partners in areas such as trade, education and culture, while sharing core values including democracy and freedom. Through the Sunshine Island Vibe Fest, the city hopes to create a relaxed and inclusive setting where residents and friends from around the world can interact, further strengthening city diplomacy and people-to-people ties.

Now in its second edition, the Sunshine Island Vibe Fest brings together the distinctive island cultures of the United States, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand and Southeast Asia, while also spotlighting the cultures of migrant workers and new immigrants, creating rich and inclusive program content.

Neil H. Gibson, Chief of the American Institute in Taiwan, Kaohsiung Branch Office, praised the festival as not only a platform for cultural exchange, but also an important occasion for deepening mutual friendship. Masafumi Oku, Chief of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Kaohsiung Office, expressed hopes that the festival’s strong popularity would further enhance international cooperation. Ma. Karina B. Perida-Trayvilla, Director of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, Kaohsiung Extension Office, shared that Kaohsiung holds a special emotional connection for the Filipino community and is widely regarded as a second home; since the launch of the festival, it has demonstrated a unique ability to bring diverse communities together. Meanwhile, Nutchyawach Sanguanchaiyakrit, Director of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office, Labor Division, Kaohsiung, revealed that even more Thai brands will be featured in 2026, allowing visitors to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine and distinctive handcrafted products.

Chang Yen-Ching, Director-General of the Department of Administrative and International Affairs, Kaohsiung City Government, noted that the inaugural Sunshine Island Vibe Fest in 2025 received enthusiastic praise from both residents and international communities. In response, the 2026 edition has been comprehensively upgraded with expanded venues, extended duration and an even richer program. The five organizing partners are currently working intensively on preparations, bringing together a multicultural market and musical performances. Through a diverse mix of performances, multicultural markets, outdoor talks and multinational sports, the festival aims to promote cross-cultural understanding and interaction.

In addition, the Kaohsiung City Government has strengthened cross-departmental collaboration, integrating resources from the Education Bureau, Social Affairs Bureau, Civil Affairs Bureau and Labor Affairs Bureau, as part of its ongoing efforts to build Kaohsiung into a more welcoming, inclusive and internationally friendly city.

The 2026 Sunshine Island Vibe Fest is jointly organized by the Department of Administrative and International Affairs, Kaohsiung City Government, the American Institute in Taiwan, Kaohsiung Branch Office, the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Kaohsiung Office, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, Kaohsiung Extension Office, and the Thailand Trade and Economic Office.
